About Us

The K.C. Irving Centre opened in 1999. Members of the Acadia Alumni Association soon realized that its stunning Garden Room could have great potential as a space for relaxed, informal concerts. The Sunday in the Garden Room recital series started around 2004 and is now well-known as a podium for serious music. In 2007, the Irving family donated a Steinway grand piano to the Garden Room.

The concert series, usually about 8 concerts between September and May, is sponsored by the Acadia Alumni Association and by many individual donors, and this means the concerts are free of charge (donations welcome). The series hosts predominantly local and regional musicians (some of whom are Acadia Alumni), but also works with Debut Atlantic, an organization that brings young and promising musicians from across Canada to our Atlantic shores.
